Part-Time Speech Language Pathologist Voice-Specialty Position (CCC-SLP) with Sonnenberg Voice (Lori L. Sonnenberg, Ltd.) in Downers Grove, IL.

Sonnenberg Voice is seeking a compassionate, relational, voice-qualified speech language pathologist to join our team. We are a premiere private practice in the Chicagoland area offering comprehensive care for voice, upper airway, professional voice, and singing. It is our priority to provide the highest quality care with good, consistent results and long-term success for our patients. We value strong relationships with both the medical and performing arts communities. We are committed to providing high quality vocal health education in the local community and beyond and strive to make a positive impact on the vocal health and lives of all individuals.
 

The position description and what we do:
 

  • This position provides a full range of speech and language pathology services for speech, voice and upper airway including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in a unique and highly specialized environment. 

  • We use evidence-based treatment, multiple treatment modalities, and a patient-centered approach to guide therapy and ensure goals are functional and meaningful for the individual. 

  • Our practice offers specialized care for the professional voice user and vocal performer with a strong emphasis on singing voice rehabilitation and muscle tension dysphonia as primary specialties. 

  • We collaborate and work alongside all of the major voice/laryngology clinics in the greater Chicagoland area.

  • This is a remote/virtual position (telepractice) with flexible hours and schedule provided employee can reach and maintain agreed upon productivity as it relates to a 10-15  hour work week schedule (ie., 8-10 hours of client time). Our practice typically provides service during regular business hours between 9:00am-5:00pm CST, however, this position may consider offering services during non-traditional afternoon/evening hours if the client and practice needs align with those hours. 

  • Position will begin with a lighter caseload (i.e., 8 sessions per week) with the expectation for growth and development in the practice over time based on the employee's specialized interests, strengths, skill set, and practice needs. We have patients ready and eager to begin working with you. 

  • This position includes an initial trial period of 90 days after which the potential for a more 
    long-term arrangement will be discussed. 
     

Requirements and what you need:​

​

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited university program.

  • Bachelor’s degree in performing arts (music, voice, theater, etc.) preferred.

  • Strong candidates have worked closely with voice and upper airway patients preferably in a professional clinical speech pathology practice. 

  • Strong candidates will have a strong understanding of vocal pedagogy, vocology, singing voice, and the professional voice.

  • Personal vocal training, singing voice performance experience, and singing voice teaching experience is required.

  • Basic piano/keyboard skills are desired. 

  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

  • Current IDFPR (Illinois) Speech Language Pathology License. If an applicant is not currently licensed to practice in the state of Illinois, employment would be contingent upon their ability to apply for and receive that licensure. 

  • Clinical experience in a medical voice or laryngology setting preferred. 

  • Basic competency in administering audio-perceptual analysis and protocols and ability to interpret videostroboscopic examinations. 

  • A patient-centered approach to intervention and strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to make treatment decisions and strategize about creative solutions for patients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Resourcefulness and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, self-initiative, and desire for ongoing learning.
     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Work virtually with primarily teens and adults with a variety of speech, language, voice, upper airway and singing voice diagnoses via both in person and telepractice. 

  • Comply with HIPAA laws and regulations.

  • Provide a safe, welcoming space for all. 

  • Evaluation and diagnosis of speech, language, upper airway, voice, singing, and communication difficulties, development and implementation of effective treatment programs, counseling to patients, families, and caregivers about assessment and recommended treatment as appropriate, providing appropriate patient education and resources, establishing patient understanding, expectations, and goals for treatment, and maintaining appropriate administrative needs and paperwork with daily SOAP notes, progress notes, treatment plans, and evaluation reports. 

  • Collaboration with other professionals on the patient’s care team (physician, OT, PT, LCP, voice teacher/coach, directors, etc.) and provide support for other medical treatment protocols that are deemed necessary by their physician. 

  • Perform other duties as necessary and as directed by the supervisor.

  • Assist with other clinic and administrative tasks such as session note writing, co-treating, any necessary client communication (answering emails and questions), regular communication with administrative assistant of the practice, and other needs as determined by the supervisor.
     

Compensation and Benefits:
 

  • Compensation begins at $40/hr. Will be discussed during the interview process depending on experience and qualifications.  

  • This is a part-time, W2 employee status position.

  • Flexible hours and schedule options.

  • Full administrative support for patient intake and scheduling. 

  • Onboarding process targeting mastery of Sonnenberg Voice processes, client introductions, assessment and treatment protocols. 

  • Opportunity to work in a highly specialized niche practice.

  • Opportunity to learn and mentor with experienced clinician and supervisor with over 20 years’ experience in the speech pathology and singing fields. 

  • Mentorship, collaborative environment, and access to continuing education for a number of related treatment areas for voice, upper airway, respiratory strength training, swallowing, manual therapy, singing voice rehabilitation, etc. 

  • Up to five (5) paid days during each one-year measurement period. Additional PTO benefits may be available depending on the employee's state of residence.

  • Assistance and support in acquiring specific office equipment related to audio/visual needs for telepractice/virtual setup.

  • We collaborate and work alongside all of the major voice/laryngology clinics in the greater Chicagoland area.

  • This is a hybrid position (in person and telepractice) with flexible hours and schedule provided employee can reach and maintain agreed upon productivity as it relates to a 15-20  hour work week schedule (ie., 15 hours of client time).  Employees can complete non-billable (i.e. administrative tasks) in the office or at alternative locations of their choosing.

  • Position will begin with a lighter caseload (i.e.,10 sessions per week) with the expectation for growth and development in the practice over time based on the employee's specialized interests, strengths, skill set, and practice needs. We have patients ready and eager to begin working with you.

 

Requirements and What You Need:

​

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited university program.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a performing arts area (music/theater) preferred.

  • Strong CF candidates who have clinical experience in a voice externship placement (100 hours minimum) and experience with professional voice will be considered.

  • Basic competency in administering audio-perceptual analysis and protocols, laryngeal function studies, and ability to interpret videostroboscopic examinations. 

  • A patient-centered approach to intervention and strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to make treatment decisions and strategize about creative solutions for patients.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Resourcefulness and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong organizational skills, self-initiative, and desire for ongoing learning.

  • All employees are eligible to participate in the company’s retirement plan after 3 years of consecutive employment.

  • Onboarding process targeting mastery of Sonnenberg Voice processes, client introductions, assessment and treatment protocols.

  • Mentorship, collaborative environment, and access to continuing education for a number of related treatment areas for voice, upper airway, respiratory strength training, swallowing, manual therapy, singing voice rehabilitation, etc. 

  • Up to five (5) paid days during each one-year measurement period. You will accrue one (1) hour of paid leave for every forty (40) actual work hours. 

  • Shared (but private) work/treatment space in a beautiful professional building with built-in reception, full suite amenities, 24-hour security, and generous parking. Conveniently located close to major freeways in the Western suburbs of Chicago and Good Samaritan Advocate Hospital.
